You might as well get it out of the way and realize it’s Katrina all over again. These poor birds were living their lives and got covered in oil and now they are in the jail known as the Sherburne Wildlife Area. Why is everyone being shipped out of Louisiana? Did we sell it back 10 years ago and this is all part of the final steps? Now all of New Orleans, and now these poor birds are being “cleaned up” and shipped away – in this case a total of 80 whole kilometers! It’s very sad, serious business;

“He is scoping around his new home,” Sharon Taylor, a Corrections Officer with the US Fish and Wildlife Marshal Service, says of the prisoner.

The bird then took a few steps into fenced in cage before trying out his wings. His smaller companion followed a few minutes later.

“They look right at home here,” said Taylor, surrounded by fencing dotted by hardened birds.

via AFP: Birds released from oily grave, never to see the ocean again.

I love these birds. They just camp out on the pier. Know what this one is? (Gulf Pier, Fort Desoto)

You’ll Never Guess What They Are Doing

THESE DOLPHINS ARE HAVING SEX! The first thing I thought was – why wasn’t my mom here for this? I mean she brings home squirrel skulls, why wouldn’t she like to see two mammals doing it? It was weird. We thought they were just playing around. Then they got closer, and allowed this shot, so we could see what was really going on. Their genitals were red and pink. There was no mistaking what was going on here. These things were doing it. Or at least they were fighting over mates. There were three dolphins in each exchange we saw. I’ll have to look into their mating patterns and get back, but it was crazy to watch nonetheless. They were turning upside down and flipping and frolicing and having a good time. The water was inviting until you knew what happened here. There were also dolphins off of North Beach and St Pete Beach, maybe it’s when they get down.

Dolphins Aren’t to be Captured on Film!

This is a shot from the Gulf Pier. It’s one of the best, to come I assure, of dolphins that I took. They don’t follow the timing of a crappy cell phone camera so they became a nightmare to prove. We ended up seeing almost 15 of these things in total I think. Maybe more. Just wait.

This is the view towards the southern tip of North Beach from Gulf Pier. It’s also the view to the remains of Fort Desoto.

What else should I say? The Gulf Pier at Fort Desoto. It’s a fishing pier so there are at least five different types of birds looking for a quick bite. People bring in fish, so there is birds. People catch bait with nets so there are birds awaiting. Last year the attraction was manatees, this year it was a ton of dolphins.
